The fact that the University Virginia Cavaliers Hoos T-shirt moreover I love this t-shirt shows under the dress shirt when the top buttons are left open is incidental in my opinion .. The trend started in the 19th century and was probably used to keep the outer shirt clean for several uses. People didn’t own many clothes back then, so it was easier to wash the undergarments. It is still used for that purpose especially in warmer climates. It is much, much, more comfortable than just wearing a shirt with no undershirt. The undershirt also catches perspiration and it is less likely to show through the shirt. Also your nipples don’t show through the shirt that way. And most importantly that is how my mother dressesed me that way as a child so I just continyed it through adulthood LMAO! My Boyfriend does this all the time! I’m assuming it’s equivalent to a woman wearing a camisole under a dress or semi exposed top. Maybe for men besides just covering up chest hair and trying to look neat in trim it may be they wear them for sweating purposes. First shirt is the dirty laundry!
